Meet

Joyce A. Debrah

Joyce A. Debrah is a Chicago native and career educator with more than 25 years of combined service to schools, nonprofit organizations, and school districts. She has served as a leader in numerous capacities, including teacher, professional development provider, conference organizer, and assistant principal. This work has been done at the local school, district, and private levels.

In her role as the manager of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for the third-largest school district in the nation, Joyce ensured that more than 600 schools implemented a framework that provided the foundation for equitable resource distribution for more than 300,000 students. Under her focused leadership and application of the MTSS framework, schools reduced the number of students enrolled in summer school by 51.4%.

Joyce was one of the first social and emotional learning specialists within Chicago Public Schools. In her role, she was the direct contact for 42 elementary and high schools within Chicago’s Englewood and Auburn Gresham communities as they implemented SEL strategies and supports. Joyce’s tenacity, strong facilitation, and leadership skills improved students’ social-emotional learning experiences. In this capacity, impacted more than 21,000 students within the Chicago Public Schools.

Joyce is a lifelong learner committed to her professional growth and development. She has either participated in or presented at numerous conferences and specialized trainings over the years including the Chicago Public Schools Leadership Institute, the CASEL Cross District Leadership Conference, the International Conference on Positive Behavior Supports, KAGAN Trainings, and the National School Reform Faculty Critical Friends Group.
